Coming 28-30th May 2021, the Australian Esports League and South Grampians Shire Council will conduct an exciting weekend of gaming & esports tournaments as part of the DISA21 festival over the Saturday and Sunday with freeplay and workshops on the Friday

You can compete in Super Smash Bro’s Ultimate, Mario Kart 8 or Just Dance 2021 competitions!

OR just play some friendlies with your mates in the free play zone there will also be fun activities for younger kids.

WHAT'S ON?

Get excited for the inaugural ‘Greater Hamilton Esports Cup’, a whole weekend of video game tournaments and competitions taking over ‘The Hub’ in Hamilton’s CBD.

Esports includes the Rocket League & Super Smash Bros. Ultimate High School events and Open competitions include a $1,225 prize pool spread across Super Smash Bro’s Ultimate (SSBU), Mario Kart 8 and Just Dance.

Other activities include an industry insight session & shoutcasting workshop, the free play gaming zone and activities for younger kids.

Participate for some fun, meet like-minded players and watch as champions are crowned the Greater Hamilton Esports Cup champion of 2021!

FRI 28th – DigiHub Workshops & Presentations

We will be running workshops at the DigiHub for local high school students in esports and commentating, and our Free Play Zone will be in action for anyone to brush up their gaming skills from 2-7pm before our packed weekend of tournaments.

The DigiHub brings together digital educators, makers, innovators, creators and enthusiasts to showcase the many possibilities that the digital economy offers and highlight the digital skills that could be needed for the future.

It’s going to be a very hands-on event featuring an exciting array of digital technologies including drones, virtual reality, 3D printers, and robots in pop up labs, free play zones and other creative spaces.

Other workshops and drop-in play sessions are also being offered by One Day Studios, Warrnambool’s animation, creative and digital arts hub. Meet the founders and learn about character designs, mechanical computer puzzles, virtual reality and 3D animation, including BeatSaber competitions.

Group A – Grades 7-9 | from 1:15pm

Join us to hear all about the exciting world of video games, esports and levelling up your play! You’ll have a chance to hear about what you can do in esports, with a focus on commentators. We’ll run you through the basics of commentating and you’ll even get a chance to try your hand at it with support from one of our professional commentators.

Group B – Grades 10-12 | from 1:35pm

Learn more about the world of video games and the esports industry along with career pathways and a technical rundown on how to become a commentator. You’ll get a rundown on what it takes to be a commentator, technical overview and you will have an opportunity to try your hand at commentating with guidance from one of our professional commentators.

Join in the 1 v 1 Super Smash Bros. tournament today and represent your school in a showcase for which school has the best gamer!

Format:

Played on the Nintendo Switch in 1 v 1 format, school students are seeded into a tournament bracket to play against one another until the champion is determined.

Awards:

The champion student will win a trophy for their school and top three placements receive a merit award for their performance.

Join in the 1 v 1 Rocket League tournament today and represent your school in a showcase for which school has the best gamer!

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (1 v 1)

Join in the 1 v 1 SSBU tournament today to show off your skills to compete for a share of the $750 prize pool.

Format:

Played on the Nintendo Switch in 1 v 1 format, players are seeded into a tournament bracket to play against one another until the champion is determined.

A maximum cap of 64 players is available for this competition.

Prizes:

1st place will receive $400 in cash
2nd place will receive $200 in cash
3rd place will receive $100 in cash
4th place will receive $50 in cash

Mario Kart 8 Races

Join in the Mario Kart tournament today and prove you are the fastest around the track to compete for a share of the $300 prize pool.

Format:

Played on the Nintendo Switch in race heats format, players are seeded into pools of 8 in a tournament bracket to play against one another until the champion is determined.

A maximum cap of 64 players is available for this competition.

Prizes:

1st place will receive $150 in cash
2nd place will receive $100 in cash
3rd place will receive $50 in cash

Just Dance

Join in the Just Dance tournament today and show off your moves! The best dancer during the day will win a share of the $175 prize pool.

Format:

Played on the Nintendo Switch, players are seeded into pools of 4 in a tournament bracket to play against one another until the champion is determined.

A maximum cap of 32 players is available for this competition.

Prizes:

1st place will receive $100 in cash
2nd place will receive $50 in cash
3rd place will receive $25 in cash

Is the event open to anyone?

This event is open to all. Players must be aged 13 years or older to compete in the esports competitions, those under the age of 16 we kindly request they obtain their parent’s permission to participate.

How many players can register?

Each game has a player cap, please check the information above to confirm how many can register for each event. Registrations are accepted on a first in best dressed basis.

The games you've chosen are amazing, but what if I play something else?

Never played Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Rocket League or Just Dance and think you may actually like it? Don’t be afraid. Sign up anyway. We won’t judge.

In the future we may have other games on offer, follow our socials to hear about any future tournaments or let us know if you have a suggestion!

And exactly how does one win?

It’s a numbers game.

Players will compete over the course of the tournament. The best of the best will face each other in a Grand Finals to determine who the ultimate winner.
