Coming Monday 5th April 2021, the Australian Esports League will conduct an exciting day of gaming, esports and cosplay. This event is part of the Georges River Council month long “2021 It’s a mood” youth festival.

Join in the Super Smash Bro’s Ultimate, Mario Kart 8 or Just Dance 2021 competition!

OR participate in the cosplay competition, free play zone and fun activities for kids.

WHAT'S ON?

The inaugural 2021 Georges River Esports Cup presented by the Georges River Council is a free to participate day of gaming & esports available to all residents in the Georges River and surrounding area!

Esports includes the Rocket League High School event and Open competitions include a $1,225 prize pool spread across 1 v 1 Super Smash Bro’s Ultimate (SSBU), Mario Kart 8 and Just Dance.

Other activities include the Cosplay competition with $300 in prizes available, the free play gaming zone and kids activities.

Participate for some fun, meet like-minded players and watch as champions are crowned the Georges River Esports Cup champion of 2021!

ESPORTS COMPETITIONS

Rocket League High School event

Join in the 1 v 1 Rocket League tournament today and represent your school in a showcase for which school has the best gamer!

Format:

Played on the Nintendo Switch in 1 v 1 format, school students are seeded into a tournament bracket to play against one another until the champion is determined.

Awards:

The champion student will win a trophy for their school and top three placements receive a merit award for their performance.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (1 v 1)

Join in the 1 v 1 SSBU tournament today to show off your skills to compete for a share of the $750 prize pool.

Format:

Played on the Nintendo Switch in 1 v 1 format, players are seeded into a tournament bracket to play against one another until the champion is determined.

A maximum cap of 64 players is available for this competition.

Prizes:

1st place will receive $400 in cash
2nd place will receive $200 in cash
3rd place will receive $100 in cash
4th place will receive $50 in cash

Tournament Bracket

Mario Kart 8 Races

Join in the Mario Kart tournament today and prove you are the fastest around the track to compete for a share of the $300 prize pool.

Format:

Played on the Nintendo Switch in race heats format, players are seeded into pools of 8 in a tournament bracket to play against one another until the champion is determined.

A maximum cap of 64 players is available for this competition.

Prizes:

1st place will receive $150 in cash
2nd place will receive $100 in cash
3rd place will receive $50 in cash

Just Dance

Join in the Just Dance tournament today and show off your moves! The best dancer during the day will win a share of the $175 prize pool.

Format:

Played on the Nintendo Switch, players are seeded into pools of 4 in a tournament bracket to play against one another until the champion is determined.

A maximum cap of 32 players is available for this competition.

Prizes:

1st place will receive $100 in cash
2nd place will receive $50 in cash
3rd place will receive $25 in cash

COSPLAY COMPETITION

Cosplay Events

Calling all cosplayers!

It’s time to dust off those costumes because Georges River Council will be holding a cosplay competition!

The competition is open to young and old with no prior experience required AND there will also be a special prize given to the best Rocket League car cosplay 😱

So get out those glue guns and get to crafting!

Format:

Judges will review your cosplay prior to making an appearance on stage, with the best cosplays in each category winning a prize.

Awards:

The Best Cosplay will receive $150
The Runner’s up will receive $50
The best Rocket League car cosplay will receive $100

Open cosplay event

Submit a cosplay featuring any form of gaming, anime, comic or superhero character.

Submissions must not be of any r18+, sexist, racist, discriminatory or otherwise hate related material.

No dangerous materials, projectiles, props greater than 1.5m or of unwieldly weight or metal weapons. Check our detailed cosplay competition policy for more info.

Rocket League cosplay event

Submit a cosplay inspired by the game Rocket League!

This is a cosplay competition focused on having fun, getting creative and crafty.

We welcome single or group submissions. Don’t be shy! The winner will be selected by best positive crowd reaction.

Please be mindful to make your creation safely and without any overly heavy or dangerous materials.

Is the event open to anyone?

This event is open to all. Players must be aged 13 years or older to compete in the esports competitions, those under the age of 16 we kindly request they obtain their parental permission to participate.

How many players can register?

Each game has a player cap, please check the information above to confirm how many can register for each event. Registrations are accepted on a first in best dressed basis.

The games you've chosen are amazing, but what if I play something else?

Never played Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Rocket League or Just Dance and think you may actually like it? Don’t be afraid. Sign up anyway. We won’t judge.

In the future we may have other games on offer, follow our socials to hear about any future tournaments or let us know if you have a suggestion!

And exactly how does one win?

It’s a numbers game.

Players will compete over the course of the tournament. The best of the best will face each other in a Grand Finals to determine who the ultimate winner.

Don’t worry if you don’t want to compete, we will have a free play zone where you can come along and chill out to play a number of games available on the Nintendo Switch including Mario Tennis, Mario Party and more!

I'm here for Cosplay, but I'm only starting out, can I join?

Our cosplay competition is open to everyone of all skill levels and experience. We will accept registrations on a first in best dressed basis, so don’t be afraid to join in and have a go!
