2020 Bendigo Cup

The City of Greater Bendigo and the AEL are hosting the inaugural ‘AEL Bendigo Cup’, an online video game competition dedicated to gamers who live in the Greater Bendigo area!

Kicking off Oct 5th, registrations for the tournament will start September 23rd at the AEL website. The tournament will feature two of the most popular Esports games – Super Smash Bros. and Rocket League and will run over 4 weeks – 3 weeks of heats and then the finals and feature a $700 prize pool!

City of Greater Bendigo Mayor Cr Margaret O’Rourke said she was very pleased with the announcement of the new Bendigo Cup Esports Tournament.

“Greater Bendigo has a fantastic reputation for hosting a great range of high-quality sporting and cultural events,” Cr O’Rourke said.

“With COVID-19, many of these events have had to be cancelled so it’s wonderful to be able to host a new event remotely, to ensure Bendigo’s name and reputation as an events capital stays strong”.

The 2020 Bendigo Cup

The inaugural 2020 Bendigo Cup presented by the Greater City of Bendigo is a free to participate online competition available to all residents in the Bendigo and surrounding area!

Competition will play over four weeks featuring team play in Rocket League (3 v 3) and solo play in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (1 v 1).

There is a $700 prize pool on offer split across 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for each game!

Participate for some fun, meet like-minded players and prove you are the best of the best to be crowned the Bendigo Cup champion of 2020!

Format

The tournament will be split into 2 stages:

Stage 1 – Qualifiers: Players will play through the weekly stages to advance towards the finals, make sure to read the rules for detailed format information covering each game.

Stage 2 – Finals: The top teams will compete in a finals series determine the ultimate winner

When:

Every Tuesday starting 13th October until 3rd November from 6:00pm AEDT
Finals will be held Tuesday the 3rd November from 6:00pm AEDT

Prizes:

1st place will receive $100 in cash each ($300 total)
2nd place will receive $50 in cash each ($150 total)
3rd place will receive $25 in cash each ($75 total)

Is the AEL Bendigo Cup open to anyone?

This event is open to all for residents in the Bendigo area of Victoria, Australia. Players must be aged 13 years or older to compete in Rocket League or Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, those under the age of 16 we kindly request they obtain their parental permission to participate.

How many players can register?

There is no limit to how many can participate, so feel free to sign-up today and invite some friends along as well!

The games you've chosen are amazing, but what if I play something else?

Never played Super Smash Bros. Ultimate or Rocket League and think you may actually like it? Don’t be afraid. Sign up anyway. We won’t judge.

In the future we may have other games on offer, follow our socials to hear about any future tournaments.

And exactly how does one win the AEL Bendigo Cup?

It’s a numbers game.

Players will compete over the course of the tournament. The best of the best will face each other in a Grand Finals to determine who the ultimate winner.
